Dr. Christine Riordan became the 15th dean of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver on July 21, 2008. Dr. Riordan is a nationally recognized expert in leadership development and diversity. From 2005-2008, Dr. Riordan was the associate dean for external relations at TCU, where she guided marketing, public relations, corporate relations and alumni relations, and oversaw the Tandy Center for Executive Leadership. She was the Luther Henderson University Chair in Leadership and a professor of management. In 2008, she was featured in Fort Worth Magazine as one of 14 brilliant minds in Tarrant County, Texas.
At TCU, Dr. Riordan successfully led the implementation of several initiatives: the creation of a new undergraduate student leadership program and office, a new branding and integrated marketing campaign and increased public relations for the Neeley School, conversion of the alumni association from a graduate focus to a schoolwide program, and the adaptation of an executive education enterprise to include additional market-relevant programs. She also collaborated with the College of Science and Engineering in the initial development of the multidisciplinary TCU Energy Institute.
Prior to joining TCU, Dr. Riordan was in the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia in Athens, and was honored by Georgia Trend as a "Top 40 under 40: Best and Brightest Young Georgians." Other honors include: 2005 Service Award, 1999 Teacher of the Year Award, a Sarah Moss Fellowship, three Sanford Research Fellowships, a Sanford Faculty-Practitioner Grant, and a Terry-Selig Research Fellowship. From 1995-2005, she served as director of the Institute for Leadership Advancement. She also founded the Waffle House Executive Leadership Program, worked on Governor Sonny Perdue's Leadership Development Task Force for the Commission for New Georgia, and was invited to help design the Executive Leadership Program for state agency department heads. Dr. Riordan is past president of the Southern Management Association, a nonprofit professional association.
For over eight years, Dr. Riordan has served as Executive Consultant in Leadership for the Southern Zone of State Farm Insurance Companies. She has designed consulting, executive coaching, and leadership development programs for businesses and organizations such as Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, AT&T, Regions Bank, Fannie Mae, IBM, the State of Georgia and the Life Office Management Association Inc.
Her research focuses on labor-force diversity issues, human resources, workplace issues, leadership development, leadership effectiveness, and career success. She has published articles in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Managerial Issues, Journal of Business Ethics and many others. She has served on editorial review boards for the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management and Academy of Management Journal. Because of her expertise in these areas, Dr. Riordan has been interviewed and quoted in magazines and newspapers such as: USA Today, The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Psychology Today, Working Mother, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Investors Daily and more. She has appeared on CNN and conducted interviews for several public radio stations.
Dr. Riordan has extensive experience generating funds to support academic programs, having helped raise over $10 million from external sources in support of programs at both the University of Georgia at Athens and TCU. At UGA, she raised over $7 million to support the programs for the Institute for Leadership Advancement and created a corporate partners program for the institute for which corporations paid a yearly $10,000 membership fee. The revenue from these corporate partners, which included companies such as Home Depot, Coca-Cola, State Farm, Synovus and Primerica, supported faculty research. At TCU, she was part of a team that raised approximately $3 million in support of the new student leadership programs office in the Neeley School of Business.
Riordan holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Georgia State University, and a bachelor's degree in textile engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is married to Bob Gatewood and they have two children, Mikaela and Mason.
