Karen Samuels Jones is a Partner with Perkins Coie LLP in the Real Estate/Land Use department and has been practicing commercial real estate law for over 20 years.
Ms. Jones' practice emphasizes commercial real estate transactions, and construction and permanent lending for single asset projects or multi-property loan portfolios (which recently includes more workouts, foreclosures and sales of REO). She provides services to lenders and national corporations in connection with negotiation and documentation of loan and loan workouts, acquisition, sale and leasing transactions. One notable transaction was the representation of one of the largest senior housing companies in the sale of 45 of their assisted living facilities. Ms. Jones serves as general counsel for a Colorado based real estate developer who owns properties in the Western United States, and is real estate lending and foreclosure/workout counsel to lenders and national corporations such as: Allstate, First National Bank of Omaha, C-III Asset Management, and CWCapital Asset Management.
In addition to her law practice, Ms. Jones is an active member of the community, both personally and professionally. In addition to being named the recipient of the 2011 Joy S. Burns "Woman of Enterprise," Ms. Jones was honored with the 2010 Brian Vogt Community Leader of the Year award and as the 2007-2008 Women In Leadership, Volunteer of the Year. Karen is a past president of CREW Denver (Commercial Real Estate Women) (2009-2010), past-chair of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce (2005-06), past chair of Women In Leadership (2006-07), past chair of the South Metro Denver Economic Development Group (2001-02), and past chair of Women In Real Estate (1996-97) among other notable board positions. She is known in each of these groups as a leader, who leads with her heart, full of compassion, commitment and pride. She has been described by her peers as having a passion for success of every person with whom she interacts, in combination with the highest of ethical standards, and highest industry achievement. She has served formally and informally as a mentor to other women in the industry, creating opportunities for them to succeed in leadership positions within the community organizations she participates and within their companies. Ms. Jones volunteers regularly on local political campaigns, Lawline 9 (real estate day) and is a regular contributor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and American Diabetes Association.
Ms. Jones is a frequent author and lecturer on various complex commercial real estate topics, most recently speaking at the 15th Annual Real Estate Restructuring Conference on March 28th, 2011 and at the 2010 ABA Real Estate Probate and Trust Section, Spring Symposium. Since the latest recession began, Ms. Jones has been teaching free courses to investors interested in opportunities available for investment in distressed real estate. Ms. Jones has been listed in the Chambers USA's Best Lawyers in America as recommended for commercial real estate lending, the Superlawyer's Corporate Counsel Edition and as a Colorado Superlawyer, since each began recognition in their publications. In 2007, Superlawyers honored her as one of the top 25 women lawyers in Colorado.
