Barbara B. Grogan

In September of 1982, Barbara Grogan founded Western Industrial Contractors Inc., an industrial construction company specializing in providing integrated design/build of material handling, baggage handling and manufacturing systems. Western Industrial Contractors has built a strong reputation for excellence in the construction field, working throughout the country for such major national corporations as IBM, Ball Corporation, United Airlines, Continental Airlines, Manville, Ralston Purina, General Electric, Coors Brewing Company, Siemens and the United States Postal Service. In September of 2004, Barbara sold her interest in Western Industrial, where she remains as a member of the Board of Directors. 

In addition, Barbara was the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Denver Branch, from 1989 to 1994. Currently she serves on the corporate Boards of Directors of Pentair Inc., a diversified industrial manufacturing company with more than $3 billion in revenue.  She served on the Board of Directors of Deluxe Corporation, the Minneapolis financial services company for 12 years, and Apogee Enterprises, the glass coatings and window wall fabricator for 10 years. She served on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and also was the first female Chairman of the Board of the Greater Denver Chamber of Commerce. She served for eight years on the Board of Directors of Winter Park Recreation Association, a ski area with annual revenue of $25 million. She is the past Chair of Volunteers of America Colorado Branch.

Barbara is a leadership figure within her industry and within her community.  As her company's success grew, Barbara emerged as one of Colorado's leading business entrepreneurs. Western Industrial Contractors was selected by Colorado Business Magazine and Coopers & Lybrand as Colorado's Entrepreneurial Company of the Year. She has been recognized by Fortune in the "People on the Rise" column.  She was featured in Fortune, Time, Esquire, Working Women, The New York Times, Industry Week, Entrepreneur Magazine, USA Today, Inc., and Nations Business, as well as numerous other publications. She was featured in Sally Helgesen’s,The Female Advantage, Women’s Way of Leadership. 

Barbara is the recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration's - Advocate of the Year Award, the National Association of Women Business Owners - Business Leaders of the '90's Award, the Martin Luther King, Jr. - Social Responsibility Award.  She also received the Leadership Denver's - Distinguished Alumni Award, the United Methodist Church - Human Relations Award, and the University of Colorado, School of Business - Distinguished Leader Award, as well as numerous other recognitions.
